Why Germany is still the land of opportunity - for doing business...

The vast majority of businesses in Germany are privately owned SMEs. These ‘Mittelstand’ companies often aim for - and achieve - world class quality and service within a niche market worldwide.

Many of these companies are themselves extremely export-orientated and focused on specialist products with high value-added. They are in the powerful position of being able to take a long term view due to the way they are funded and managed.

This long term approach and stability provides the foundation for much of Germany’s continuing economic success.

International trade is the lifeblood of Germany

A significant proportion of German exports include a range of imported components… your exports to Germany could easily form part of Germany’s exports to the world.

According to The WTO - over 40% of German GDP is from international trade compared with just over a fifth for China and less than a sixth for the U.S.

World Trade Organisation country ranking figures for product sales (2013-2015) make interesting reading… U.S. 1st for imports, 2nd for exports; China 2nd for imports, 1st for exports; Germany 3rd for imports, 3rd for exports; UK 9th for exports, 5th for imports.

With Germany’s economy so heavily dependent on exporting and importing it is the natural first choice for an export campaign from the U.K. for both component suppliers and others.

German home market is the biggest in Europe – and growing

Germany is by far the leading trading country in the continent in terms of volume and value. With a largely very prosperous population of around 82 million, the German economy remains one of the most outstanding economies in the world. It is only a few hundred miles from the UK – and it has been forecast to grow at around 1.5% each year over the next 20 years.

Finding the right opportunities for doing business in Germany...

German imports were valued at more than £700,000,000,000 in 2015.  Germany is the priority export market for many successful UK companies. It offers many potential routes to support your organisation’s success.

Your products could be destined for the German home market – or to be component parts - ultimately heading on towards German firms’ thriving export markets.
